Now that you've established a morning routine that's perked your mood and crushed your winter blues, the next step is to create a night time skincare routine. This will include more skincare items and even some masks. The reason why everyone should have a sophisticated routine at night is to allow the skin to rejuvenate, restore, and keep our skin looking youthful without any interruption unlike during the day. During the day no matter how good our morning routine is, our skin is constantly in contact with pollution, UV rays, and debris which makes our skin look dull and tired which no one wants. So how do we start?
Step 1: double cleanse the face especially if you've been wearing makeup all day. For me, I love using the Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm and the Truly Lifestyle Facial Cleanser on a daily basis. These two power duos help to ensure that all makeup is removed from the skin and doesn't leave it dry or tight. An alternative to the Farmacy cleansing balm is the Garnier Micellar water. Micellar water acts like a magnet for dirt and oil from the pores and removes it gently which is perfect for sensitive skin. After cleansing the skin, use a physical exfoliate up to 3 times a week to remove dead skin cells and even out any texture on the skin. I often will switch between the K'Pure Perk Up Skin Polishing Oil and the Caudalie Deep Cleansing Exfoliator. When my skin is super dry and looking really tired I love using the K'Pure Perk Up because it's made with the key ingredients ground coffee beans and raw honey, both ingredients sourced locally. Not only does this awaken the senses by the caffeine but also nourishes the skin with the honey. As for the Caudalie deep cleansing exfoliator, I use this when I've gone all out with full glam and when my skin is super congested.
Step 2: At least 3 nights out of the week it's super important to use masks to detox the skin and to hydrate. Using a detox mask to unclog pores and remove buildup from the week is super important and key to clear skin. I love using the Caudalie Instant Detox Mask for a deep cleanse on my pores and get rid of any excess oils and dirt. When my skin is breaking out like a mad man I love using the Overnight Garden Mask by Pura Botanicals to clarify my skin and since this is an overnight mask I don’t use an evening moisturizer. For the time your skin needs that extra boost of hydration, the Watermelon Overnight Mask also from Pura Botanicals is perfect. This will also replace your evening moisturizer when this is used.
Step 3: Toner! Here we are again with toners and how great they are to use after cleansing our face both morning and night. By applying some toner on a cotton pad or a reusable bamboo cotton pads (which you can find on Amazon) you will triple make sure that all residue is removed and your balancing your skin's PH level. After this step I usually use a toner in a spray bottle/ aerosol can to ensure my skin is prepped for my following serums and moisturizers. The two that I use on a nightly basis are the Laneige Essential Power Skin Toner for Normal to Dry Skin and the Caudalie Grape Water.
Step 4: Serums! Pick a serum with Vitamin C and Vitamin E ingredients, such as Rosehip, to help brighten your skin overnight to wake up looking glory and moisturizer. The evening is the perfect time to use a highly rich serum to really sink into the layers of skin while sleeping. My personal favourite is the Nourishing Facial Oil from Woodlot. It soothes my skin, gives that healthy glow and makes my skin nice and moisturized.
Step 5: Last but not least is moisturizer. Look for a moisturizer that is more thick and has more rebuilding ingredients. By having these properties, the ingredients will help to calm down any inflammation, promote collagen production and repair any free radical damage occurred during the day. Two great night time moisturizers are The Tumeric Rebuilding Night Cocoon and the URSA Major Golden Hour Recovery Cream.
Hope this helps and you join me on the road to glow, healthy skin.
